I do not use prong or chain collars.
Prong collars actually cause less trachea damage than choke chains, but the dog does not learn to choose to make a decision based on anything other than discomfort.
I do use soft british leads because, though a full choke, they stay in place well.
Limited choke martingale or combo collars are a very good training choice.
Gentle Leaders and Easy Walk Harnesses help the dog choose to make the nice walking behavior we humans enjoy without strain or stress on the pooch and are highly recommended.

GENTLE LEADER HEAD COLLAR

The PREMIER Gentle Leader Head Collar is a SUPER training option to stop your dog’s pulling action by applying subtle pressure to the back of the neck discouraging the propensity to pull forward while gently turning the head toward you rather than against you. It is a GREAT way to control the heads of our pooches by gently helping them keep their attention on the “other end of their leash” which is us.

EASY WALK HARNESS

The PREMIER Easy Walk Harness is a WONDERFUL harness which controls the dog’s shoulders.
The leash connects at the chest not like the traditional harness which connects between the shoulders actually harnessing the most strength of the dog. Back connecting harnesses are good for field work but not for general walking training.
